Running to promote scientific research of rare diseases

On Sunday, March 11, over 1,100 employees and family members of DIA Group took part in the 9th Race for Hope in Madrid (Carrera de la Esperanza), with the purpose of raising awareness on these pathologies through sports. DIA Group renewed its commitment to this important solidarity event for another year, which it has been supporting since the very beginning, and to which all its employees and customers were invited to share their solidarity with this cause.

The race, organized by the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER) was held in Madrid’s Casa de Campo, the final highlight of the Rare Diseases Day campaign, which is celebrated around the world on February 28, the most ‘special day of the year’. The initiative gathered 4,000 people for a morning full of sports events, fun and family activities. This year’s motto was: ‘Let’s build today for tomorrow’ which intended to raise awareness on the importance of scientific research to fight against these diseases.

FEDER is committed to the Race for Hope as a tool that not only helps provide visibility to the day-to-day reality faced by affected families; but also to stress the need to promote research in rare diseases in response to each of these problems.

The involvement of DIA Group and its employees in this celebration of solidarity has been increasing since the race was first run in 2010, all the way to the present. Furthermore, the company organized a massive sports warm-up for all participants, boosted by the Demos la Vuelta al Día team, the Gastronomic Community of DIA and several fun activities.
